Hartford's Parkville Market: Finding Its Niche During a Pandemic

Parkville Market is a dining experience with a unique spin. The self-proclaimed “first food hall” in Connecticut, is located in the up and coming Parkville neighborhood of Hartford and has bought more than just food to the table. It is fun for the whole family with live music, events, and a growing vendor list that will keep people coming back for more.

“We are able to accommodate a lot of people safely with everything that is going on and I think that it’s a fun place and everybody has a good time,” said DJ White, Assistant General Manager at Parkville Market.

Inside the market, they have 20 restaurants offering a variety of foods diverse in both culture and style as well as a bar on each end of the main floor serving wine, local beer, and cocktails. The Cocktail Chemist canned cocktail brand recently was added to their lineup with several options to choose from including the Mojito and Something Good, a floral take on the vodka lemonade.

Upstairs, they have a brand-new full-service bar called, The Local serving a menu of locally inspired house-made beverages with names like the Hartford Current, The Nutmegger, and the Colt Revolver. The space is open and bright during the day but at night, has a subtle warm ambiance perfect to enjoy a night cap with some friends.

When the weather is nice, the outside dining area is available and has plenty of seating for guests to hangout and relax under the golden glow of the string lights streaming across the long ally above the picnic tables. The Parkville Market sign perched on top of the main building lights up bright and is reminiscent of an old-school movie theater marquee. The picnic tables are spread out with lots of space to walk through safely without having to get too close to other diners

White said, “Hopefully Covid goes away soon and we are able to do more because, we have space for events in here as well as the building next door.”

On Thursday evenings, as long as the weather permits, they offer live music from local bands sourced through Parkville Sounds. They also are expanding their indoor dining and vendor space in the building directly across from the dining hall. This space will eventually house a brewery, an arcade, as well as the local liqueur producer Hartford Flavor Company. There is no set date yet for the opening of these additions, but they are hoping to have it ready this winter.
